Week 29: 06/08 - 12/08
What's on the menu
He's really getting the hang of eating. He still can't load the spoon but if you hand him a full spoon, you bet he'll put it in his mouth. Or spread it over his face near his mouth. One or the other.
He's had some new vegetables; cabbage and squash. And first fruits: avocado and pear. I was very excited to get him on the fruits as it must be better than steamed vegetables. I think though if you've had milk for 6 months, anything would taste great.

Toy cull
Roland has lots of toys. One of the benefits of having a Nain that works in a charity shop is you have an almost endless stream of toys coming in. The problem though is that "new toy magic" is real. A new toy is very exciting but for only so long. Tee's solution: buy him new toys.
My solution; toy rotation. Last week I removed a selection of his toys and hid them away. I brought them back out on Monday and some of that new toy magic has come back. It's not a silver bullet but it's better than amassing a billion toys.
Also, I promise I am a fun parent.

New car who dis?
Living out in the sticks has it's trade offs. Great nature but rubbish public transport. For the boy to get to swimming lessons it's a 15 minute drive, or hour long trek on the buses. Tee has wanted to get back to driving for a while but found the van too big. She went on the hunt for her first love; a Toyota Yaris.

The downside of a new car is figuring out your systems again. We've had the van so long it usually has everything ready to go. For example; shopping trolley token on the keys, 2 spare shopping bags, and almost always a baby carrier. Food shop ready. Tee has nothing in her car but it meant that Roland got to sit in the trolley for the first time.

Hanging out
He's getting very popular in the village from having a bunch of play dates. He hiked to the local waterfall with family friends. Had a picnic in the park with the twins. Also went to the donkeys with the twins, and sung his first song in Welsh. And to top it off, went to Esters for a coffee. Ester is a couple of months older but will be in the same school year as Roland. I hope they get along. I hope he gets to have a friend throughout school that he can say "we've been friends since we were babies". Tee hopes they fall in love.
