Week 27: 23/07 - 29/07
Big boy wheels
Now he's 6 months and sitting up I was psyched to put his wheels into sports mode. We made the switch on the pram and took it out for a test drive. It's unreal how much better the pram is like this. It's lighter, it's easier to turn, the boy can see what's going on. 10 out of 10. Also because the chair is attached to the frame, we can start running.
However, he does get a little lost in there as he's only just old enough to be in there and he's not a big baby. Also it's very difficult to interact with him while he's in there so if he's screaming you have to stop to comfort him. These were major pain points for Tee and as the majority pram user, she made the executive decision to switch back to the baby pram. We'll try again in a month or so.

Solids
That's right, the boy is having his first taste of real food. Not that breast milk isn't real food, but like proper food. Wait, I mean solid food. What a joy. Tee has been talking about this day for so long. We were ready but the boy had a poorly tummy for a while so we put it on hold until he was showing signs of improvement. And that got better, so we got to steaming vegetables.
He started on broccoli. Pro tip: don't start on broccoli. It's the messiest one. Those little green bits get everywhere. This was him eating some beatroot, a vegetable me and Tee dislike. He loved it.

It's a lot of fun watching him explore something I take for granted. Something so routine as food. Something so bland as steamed beatroot. Yeah, your on tenterhooks about if he will choke. Yeah, your food goes cold. And lunch time is now an hour long affair with more dishes and cleaning. But look at that face! Not the third one, although a strong gag reflex should help him from chocking.
Planks
I think the boys first exercise was glute bridges. Before he could roll over or anything he would pick up his butt while lying on his back. Now he's loving the plank. He's really trying to crawl at the moment and is making good progress (still not forward progress). He's able to pick up his body weight on his hands and feet. He's also now making up onto his knees and shifting his body weight forwards and backwards. He's got the position down, just not the momentum. It'll come..
Cousin time
My mum, my sister, and the (three) cousins came over to visit. They arrived while he was asleep. I crammed everyone into the piles everyone into the living room and we waited patiently for the boy to wake up. I was nervous for him coming into the room as it would be filled with a bunch of people who aren't usually there. I know I wouldn't want to wake up to my playing room filled with 5 extra people. But he came round the door, took a quick glance across all the faces beaming back at him, and gave everyone a big smile.
Shout out the the youngest cousin for playing with Roland so much. And Auntie Em and Nain looking after the boy while Tee and I left the house for the first time ALONE in 6 months.
